Man it has been a while…. again….
So it has been a couple months… or almost 10…
I guess work and life will do that to you when you have 6 weddings that you have to attend, and weekends seem to never stop being full with something…
but I digress…
unfortunately I lost one of my main sites this month, just as I was about to get some new hardware and start virtualizing. Needless to say that project will get pushed back some, until I can gather the rest of the funds.
In the mean time, I may try to see what I can do on a makeshift server and start creating the virtualised environment and redo existing to swap them to V-hosts… thats something I will have to test and see…
At work we are starting the push to virtualize so I’m about to get a good amount of training and work with it.
Hopefully I can take more time to write my thoughts in the coming months. So until then…

PHP go boom
Well updating the the latest php release caused teh whole php part of the server to blow up… after rebuilding from scratch, php is working again (since you can read this) and it looks like I will be rebuilding it later tonight to take advantage of the new way of running (fastCGI vs. isapi as it runs right now)

So much for life calming down
Well, I guess it still did in a way, but with trying to get class work done before the final, getting stuff done at work, and keeping up with websites, it seems I’m just as busy as ever… Last night the server was down for a bit as I upgraded the memory in anticipation of hosting some more sites, as well as updates that needed to be done. I’m off to do some more work, so until next time…

Server parts good, fire bad
so yea… putting in that raid card the server magically caught aflame… yay me… the amazing part is the server still worked after that…. so Dell sent a replacement and Tues night I swapped everything over to the new one… which was actually upgraded… slightly faster processors, and it came with a basic RAID card… which will suit my needs just fine… now to make an image of the OS so when I create the RAID array it can throw the image back on there…

Server goodies…
Just a little server update… to try and speed it up some, I’ve ordered a better RAID card and the first of a couple harddrive upgrades. The first drive is on its way here.. a 73GB SAS 15.5K RPM drive that the OS will reside on… right now it is on a SATA 7200 RPM drive that I thought would be good enough… but as more sites are added the spooling time seems to get longer when they invoke .net so hopefully this will help… eventually I will get a 250GB drive to replace the SATA one in there now that is used for storage, then use the old drives for backup or software installer storage… who knows… maybe use it to test out stuff… but hopfully I won’t have any issues ghosting to the new drive…
